A group of engineers and architects from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States won the Mars City Design competition in 2017, creating a prototype of housing for the future colonization of Mars. The initiators and sponsors of the competition were the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States and the European Space Agency, Space reported.
The Martian habitation is executed in the form of domes, connected among themselves by tunnels under a surface of a planet. Domes will reliably protect people from radiation, temperature drops and the fall of small meteorites. Each dome is designed to accommodate 50 people.
In November, it was reported that China planned to launch a spacecraft by Mars by 2020, and in 2030 to deliver ground samples from Mars to Earth.
